ACCIDENT IN AWKA CLAIMS TWO LIVES.

Two people are feared dead and several others sustained serious injuries in a multiple accident involving a commercial bus and two trucks along mopol 29 base axis of the Enugu Onitsha highway at about seven thirty on Monday evening.

According to an eye witness, the commercial bus with registration number Anambra KPP 299 XA, was carrying passengers from Enugu and one of the trucks with the registration number Imo WER 306XL, loaded with goods was moving out of Awka, while the second truck was heading to Awka when they all collided. Some of the injured passengers had been moved to the Chukwu Emeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University Teaching Hospital, Amaku-Awka.
Reacting to the incident, the Assistant Corps Commander in charge of Operations, who led the Federal Road Safety Rescue Team to the scene, Mr Charles Ezichi, attributed the accident to impatience and reckless driving on the part of the drivers involved.
Mr. Ezechi therefore advised the motorists to always exercise patience, maintain high-level responsibility as well as avoid over speeding.
Radio Nigeria correspondent Uche Ndeke reports that as at the time of filing in this report, men of the FRSC, the Police and other security operatives were still on ground clearing the road for free vehicular movement.
