ABIA WARRIORS TO RETURN TO UMUAHIA TOWNSHIP STADIUM AFTER UPGRADE
REPORTER: PEACE AGBO
The management of Abia Warriors Football Club of Aba says it has upgraded the playing surface of the Umuahia Township Stadium to enable them to return home ground for her matches.
The Chairman of the club, John Obuh, disclosed this to journalists, who were investigating the efforts of the club to rehabilitate the playing surface of the stadium after the football authorities in Nigeria banned it from hosting league matches.
Mr. Obuh said the Nigeria Premier Football League, (NPFL) had issued three options to Abia Warriors over inability of the club to keep the pitch, which serves as the club’s home base, to standard.
He, however, announceded that the pitch had been upgraded to the desired standard.
According to Obuh, measures have been put in place to ensure the lushing turf of the pitch despite the dry season and regretted pain the ban had caused the club.
Contributing, the Manager of the club, Coach Erasmus Onu, maintained that playing on a natural surface helps payers to have better control of their ball.
He appealed for encouragement and support from the football authorities and premier league teams who maintain natural surfaces at their home ground.
Radio Nigeria gathered that NPFL had on January 16 banned Abia Warriors from using the pitch of the Township Stadium for lack of pitch maintenance.
The club is expected to resume play at the home ground of the football club this February, 2024 after the upgrading of the pitch.
