ABIA RECORDS 4 FRESH CASES OF MONKEY POX

A Deputy Director of Health Education and Officer-in-charge of the Old Umuahia Health Centre, Mrs. Emelda Ndukauba says four cases of Monkey Pox disease have been confirmed in Umuahia South Local Government Area.

Speaking with Radio Nigeria, Mrs. Ndukauba said that sensitization to the ailment had been concluded at the local government headquarters and would be done at Old Umuahia Healthcare on Wednesday September 20, 2022 to enlighten people on the causes, symptoms and prevention of the disease.

She explained that Monkey Pox was a viral infection characterized by sudden fever with Vesicular Pustule Rash all over the body, especially on the palms and soles.

The Deputy Director of Health Education said the disease could be transmitted through direct contact from infected person or animal by body fluid, skin to skin contact, through blood and vomiting.

Mrs. Ndukauba harped on the preventive measures which include using handkerchief to cover mouth during sneezing and coughing, isolation of infected person, use of hand gloves, informing the community and health authority about suspected cases.

She pointed out that most patients of monkey pox would recover with appropriate care.
