FREE MEASLES VACCINATION HOLDS IN ENUGU STATE IN MARCH

Parents and caregivers are advised to ensure that their children and infants aged nine months to five years are immunized against measles.

The World Health Organization’s Measles Consultant for Enugu State, Mrs Eunice Ajayi gave the advice in Enugu , while speaking on the free measles vaccine undertaken by UNICEF, WHO, Enugu State Primary Healthcare Development Agency and other Development partners.

Mrs Ajayi explained that the measles vaccination in the state would hold from first to thirteenth of next month, to protect children against the disease.

She noted that measles was a major childhood killer disease in Sub-sahara Africa, including Nigeria.

Speaking on the venues for the vaccination, the Health Educator, Enugu State Ministry of Health, Mr Fabian Nebo, explained that the exercise would take place in all the health centres in the state, public places such as worship centres, markets and schools.

The Chief of UNICEF Enugu Field Office, Doctor Ibrahim Conteh, encouraged governments and leaders in Africa to invest more in healthcare and well being of children, without discrimination.
