MUSLIMS TOLD TO PROMOTE PEACE AND UNITY IRRESPECTIVE OF ETHNIC OR RELIGIOUS BACKGROUNDS

Muslim faithful are encouraged to promote peace and unity irrespective of tribe and religion.

The Deputy Director, Islamic Affairs, Eighty Two Division of the Nigerian Army,  Lieutenant Colonel Abubakar Tahir made the call in a sermon to mark the feast of Eid-el-kabir.

According to Lieutenant Colonel Tahir, fostering unity and peace is paramount to enhancing economic, socio and political well being of the country.

Uphold to the path and the right teachings and to keep away from following their desires out of the controls of the religion.

 Lieutenant Colonel Tahir while calling on Muslims faithful to live a life in accordance with the teaching of Islam, appealed to parents and guardians to inculcate in their children and wards core values and morals for a better society.

Some of the worshippers at the event expressed joy for the celebration.

Our Correspondent reports that highlight of the event was slaughtering of ram at the praying ground.

Similarly, the Chief Imam of Abakaliki Central Mosque, Alhaji Muhammadu Aminu called on Nigerians to be obedient to rule of law for the advancement of the nation’s democracy and the unity of the country.

Alhaji Aminu stated this while leading prayer to commemorate the Celebration at Central Mosque Abakaliki in Ebonyi State.

He appreciated God for making it possible for Muslim faithful to participate in this year’s celebration and urged them to emulate Prophet Abraham by being obedient to constituted authorities.

A leading Muslim faithful, Alhaji Idris Suleiman described the event as a festival of sacrifice but admonished adherents not to borrow to celebrate the day.

Two women, who also attended the prayer session, said in spite of economic difficulties, they had prepared food and bought assorted drinks to mark the day with their family members and friends.

Some of the faithful later paid Salah homage to Governor David Umahi at Government House Abakaliki.

Receiving them on behalf of the Governor, his Deputy, Dr Kelechi Igwe charged the faithful to remain committed to the teachings of Prophet Mohammed.

Also in Abia State, Muslims are enjoined to use the period of the celebration to pray for the unity, peace and progress of the country.

The Chief Imam of Umuahia Central Mosque, Alhaji Mustapha Goni stated this during the Eid el Kabir prayer at Umuahia Township Stadium.

Alhaji Goni who spoke through an interpreter advised the faithful to always show love and peace to both Muslims and non-Muslims as directed by Allah.

He called on those in leadership positions to always think of ways to improve the welfare and living conditions of the masses.

Alhaji Goni urged Nigerians to join hands with the Federal Government in its fight against corruption and insecurity confronting the country.

The Sarikin Hausawa of Abia State, Alhaji Yaro Danladi also used the occasion to call on Nigerians to come together and show love to one another irrespective of ethnic or religious backgrounds.

In separate contributions, the State Director Department of Security Services, DSS, Abia State, Alhaji Jaffar Ibrahim and the Former Chairman Umuahia North Local Government Area, Alhaji Suleman Ukandu urged Nigerians to embrace peaceful co-existence.
