INEC MOVES TO CORRECT ANOMALIES IN PRESIDENTIAL AND NASS ELECTION AHEAD OF SATURDAY’S POLLS

The Independent National Electoral Commission INEC Abia state says it has corrected all the anomalies noticed in the last Presidential and National Assembly elections in the state.

The Resident Electoral Commissioner INEC Abia state Dr Joseph Iloh stated this during a meeting with Inter-agency consultative committee on Election Security ICCES, the Inter-Party Advisory Council IPAC and other stakeholders in Umuahia.

He gave assurance that the commission would not allow any identified pitfalls to repeat in the Saturday’s Governorship and State House of Assembly polls in the state. Dr Iloh maintained that INEC would continue to remain neutral and unbiased umpire in the discharge of its electoral duties.

He urged Political parties to caution their supporters and faithful on the need to embrace peace and shun violence during the election. Dr Iloh gave an assurance that INEC would continue to provide a level playing ground to all Political parties in the Saturday’s poll noting that the commission has no favored candidate or party as being alleged..

Okon stated that adequate plans were being put in place to ensure safe and timely distribution of election materials to various on the election day.

He warned that security personnel would deal with anyone caught in any election malpractices in the state during the Saturday’s poll.

In their separate comments, the chairman IPAC Abia state Reverend Augustine Ehiemere, Chairman PDP Chief, Johnson Onuigbo and the representative of the All Progressives Congress, Mr.  Acho Obioma called on INEC to be more proactive in ensuring that election materials arrived the various polling units early to avoid many people being disenfranchised.
