HIGH RATE OF ROAD MISHAP IN THE COUNTRY ATTRIBUTED TO RECKLESS DRINKING

The Enugu State Governor, Chief Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi has called for sustainable enlightenment of road users on the need for accident free yuletide.

Governor Ugwuanyi who was represented by the Permanent Secretary, Enugu State Ministry of Transport, Mrs. Nkechi Ewo stated this during the flag off  of 2017 Ember Month Mega Rally tagged ‘’Don’t Drink and Drive Safety Campaign ‘’held at the National Museum of Unity, Enugu.

Governor Ugwuanyi attributed most road mishaps in the society to reckless drinking.

Speaking on the occasion, the Corps Marshal, Federal Road Safety Corps represented by the Deputy Corps Commander, Mr. Ali Sale Tanimu noted that the corps was making efforts to change the attitude of some reckless drivers.

Earlier in an opening remark, the Enugu State Sector Commander, Mr. Edward Zamber described the theme of this year’s state rally,  ’‘Right to Life on the Highway not Negotiable ‘’ as apt.

Delivering a lecture on the ‘’Effects of alcohol on the human body, Dr. Chigbu Chukwuma advised Nigerians against excessive intake of alcohol.

Also speaking on the occasion, the Sustainability and Regulatory Relations Manager, Nigerian Breweries PLC, Mr. Edem Vinda assured FRSC of the company’s support in bringing road crashes to its barest minimum.

The event featured a “Don’t Drink and Drive drama” performed by members of the Nigeria Youth Service Corps and FRSC officials.
