UNEMPLOYMENT: CBN WANTS YOUTHS TO EMBRACE AGRICULTURE

The Deputy Governor, Economic Policy, Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Dr. Joseph Nnanna, says the agricultural sector still remains the largest employer of labour force in the country.

Dr. Nnanna stated this while delivering a lecture entitled “Diversification of the Nigerian Economy through the Agricultural Sector” at Abia State University Uturu.

He maintained that with the right policies and interventions through the agricultural sector and its value chain, the challenge of youth unemployment in the country would be drastically addressed.

Dr. Nnanna noted that Agriculture had played a catalytic role in the nation’s economy.

He listed lack of requisite infrastructure, poor food storage and processing facilities, underdeveloped value chain and unfriendly operating environment for businesses to thrive as some of the challenges confronting Economic diversification in the country.

The CBN Deputy Governor urged Nigerians, especially the unemployed youth, to embrace agriculture for self-reliance instead of depending on the non-available white collar jobs in the country.
