The National Youth Service Corps, NYSC, has warned Corps members to remain neutral and adhere strictly to the guidelines in the Electoral Act as they prepare to participate in the next week’s general election in the Nigeria.

The Director General of the Scheme, Brigadier General Yusha’u Ahmed, gave the warning at the closing of 2023 Batch A stream One corps members at Old Mcgregor College Afikpo in Ebonyi State.

Represented by the State Coordinator of the Scheme, Mrs. Bamai Mercy, the Director General reminded the Corps members that the scheme had received accolades due to quality contributions to the conduct of previous polls since 2008 and charged them to take a clue from their predecessors.

“Therefore, I enjoined you to take a clue from them by performing election duties with high sense of responsibilities.

“You are to ensure adherence to the guidelines contained in the Electoral Act and especially remain neutral during the exercise,” he stated.

Brigadier General Ahmed noted that the scheme had secured the commitment of the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, and security agencies on their safety during the national assignment.

Brigadier General Ahmed cautioned the corps members against meddling in the local politics of their host communities and using the social media to propagate hate and ethnic jingoism.

891 corps members participated in the closing ceremony with 473 of them females.
