IMPLEMENT 65 YRS TEACHERS RETIREMENT ACROSS BOARD — EDUCATIONIST
REPORTER: SIMON IDUMA
Government at all levels in Ngeria have been urged to give more incentives to teachers to enable them to put in their best to improve the quality of education in the country.
An educationist, Dr. Livinus Ezeuwa, made the call while reacting to the release of circular for the implementation of 65 years retirement age for teachers.
Dr. Ezeuwa described the policy as a step in the right direction and called for it’s effective implementation across board without delay.
He argued that for Nigeria to attain her desired development in all sectors, government should, as a matter of deliberate policy, ensure adequate funding of education and welfare of teachers.
Dr. Ezeuwa reminded teachers that by extending their service from 35 to 40 years much was expected of them.
He called on teachers to be productive and bring their wealth of experience to bear to transform the country intellectually and technologically.
Dr. Ezeuwa dismissed the claim that the extension of the service year of teachers would worsen graduate unemployment in the country.
The public affairs analyst rather advocated overhaul of the country’s educational curriculum at all levels to equip graduates to create jobs as entrepreneurs instead of depending on white collar jobs, which are almost non-existent.
