APC MUSLIM-MUSLIM TICKET: INSENSITIVE & UNDEMOCRATIC — DR NWKOEDE

REPORTER: UZO EGWU

As reactions continue to trail the recent pronouncement of the ruling All Progressives Party (APC) for a Muslim-Muslim ticket in the 2023 general election, a public affairs analyst in Abakaliki, Dr. Joseph Nkwede, has described the move as most insensitive and undemocratic.

Speaking with Radio Nigeria in Abakaliki on the implications of the same faith ticket, Dr. Nkwede, who is a Senior Lecturer in the Department of Political Science, Ebonyi State University, noted that though it was the right of the APC Presidential candidate, Alhaji Bola Ahmed Tinubu, to choose anyone as his running mate, he should have considered national unity and cohesion, especially now that the country is divided along ethnic and religious lines.

According to Dr. Nkwede, quality of competence as cited by Alhaji Bola Tinubu as reason for his choice of Senator Kashim Shetima can be found in many Christian Northerners to strike a balance between the two major religions in Nigeria.

He however said it was now up to the electorate to vote for people and parties that are capable of promoting their collective interests.

Dr. Nkwede, therefore, called on eligible voters who are yet to register or collect their permanent voter’s card to do so immediately as it remained their only weapon to bring about positive change.
