ANAMBRA ASSEMBLY PASSES MID TERM FRAMEWORK

REPORTER: UCHE NDEKE

The Anambra State House of Assembly has passed the Medium Term Framework (MTEF) document sent in by Governor Chukwuma Soludo.

The majority leader of the House, Dr. Nnamdi Okafor, had presented the document and the House dissolved to the committee of the whole where it was looked into by the lawmakers.

The Speaker of the House, Mr. Uche Okafor, read the resolution as adopted by the committee of the whole upon reverting to plenary.

The Chairman House Committee on Finance and Appropriation, Mr. Obinna Emeneka, while moving a motion that the document be adopted as a working tool for three years, described the document as a prerequisite for the passage of the 2022 revised budget.

According to him, the MTEF document captures the priority projects the present administration intends to embark on and the specific amounts allocated to the said areas in the budget.

Mr. Emeneka, who represents Anambra East Constituency, noted that the document was in line with constitutional provisions and best financial practices across the globe.

He observed that the Medium Term Framework document was necessary to be passed before the budget would be considered and passed by the law makers.

The Finance and Appropriation Chairman hinted that the 2022 revised budget estimate, which had all the Ministries, Departments and Agencies taken their turn to defend, would be passed to enable the executive commence work in ernest.

Mr. Emeneka said the law makers had to do a thorough job on the budget in order not to shortchange the people for which it is meant to benefit.

The House adjourned until Friday to consider the budget estimate and possibly pass it into law.
