DON, SOLUDO’S WIFE ENCOURAGE TREE PLANTING IN ANAMBRA

Anambra State Government says it is committed to enhancing the ecological and climate resilience of the area.

This is to be achieved through tree planting and forestation initiative aimed at reviving eroded lands and beautifying the environment.

The Commissioner for Environment, Dr. Felix Odumegwu, stated this at the launch of Tree Planting and Urban Forestation in Awka.

Dr. Odumegwu emphasized that “trees are not only fundamental wildlife but also critical to the economy as they provide fruits that feed humans, animals and birds and are primary source of raw materials for paper and timber industries.”

While speaking on climate regulation and environment protection, the Commissioner explained that trees play a pivotal role in climate regulation and mitigation.

He called for more proactive approach to protect the land the ecosystem.

A lecturer, Dr. John Ogbodo of the Department of Forestry and Wildlife, Nnamdi Azikiwe University Awka, represented by Dr. Adaeze Achugbo, called for sustainability of the initiative noting that without plant there would be no existence of man.

While officially marking the commencement of the tree planting initiative, the wife of Anambra State Governor, Dr. Nonye Soludo, called on citizens to help protect the plants for the environment.

She said that planting of trees is good for greener, cleaner and sustainable Anambra, and encouraged people to plant more trees whenever they cut one.
