ANAMBRA STATE GOVT SETS UP ECONOMIC TREE SEEDLINGS DISTRIBUTION COMMITTEE

Anambra State Government has set up committees to supervise the effective distribution of one million combination of seedlings to people across the state.

The State Commissioner For Agriculture, Dr. Forster Ihejiofor, made the made this known while briefing stakeholders on plans ahead of the distribution at the Conference room of the Ministry.

The economic trees and seedlings comprising 700,000 Oil palm seedlings, 200,000 breadfruit seedlings,50,000 Kola nuts, 50,000 Bitter Kola nuts and 40,000 Paw paw are to mobilise people of the state for the 2024 economic Tree Planting Season.

The Commissioner reiterated Governor Chukwuma Soludo’s committment towards using the agro agenda to lift people out of poverty while targeting between 130,000 and 280,000 beneficiaries across the area.

He announced that government had procured the seedlings for distribution through already created five regional collection centres at Otuocha-Zone A, Awka–Zone B, Ajalli-Zone C, Ogidi–Zone D and Ozubulu–Zone E.

While urging every Stakeholder to be a committed driver of the project by playing supervisory roles, Dr. Ihejiofor explained that the seedlings must be planted and nurtured with organic enhancers.

Contributing, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Political Matters, Dr. Alex Obiogbolu, further explained that the committees made up of key stakeholders “are saddled with the responsibility of overseeing the exercise at Distribution Centres in wards and villages.”

He noted that each beneficiary would receive a minimum of five and maximum of eight seedlings irrespective of combination, pointing out that those already profiled would be considered before others.
