FIRE GUTS CHISCO LOADING BAY IN ABA

Luxury buses and other vehicles worth millions of naira have been destroyed by fire at Chisco Transport Company office, Milverton Avenue, Aba.

To this end, Abia State Government has directed the installation of fire extinguishers in every business facility in the state to forestall the incessant cases of fire outbreak in the state.

Governor Alex Otti gave the directive during an on the spots visit at the scene of the fire.

The Governor, who explained that the enforcement of the policy would commence next week, described the fire at Chisco office as unfortunate and pledged to procure additional fire trucks to complement what is available in Aba Fire Service.

He commended the men of the state fire service for mobilizing and working hard to stop the fire.

According to the Governor, some motor parks on MilVerton Avenue, Osisioma and Port Harcourt Roads in Aba may be relocated to a more spacious area for ease of movement.

Governor Otti expressed regret that there had been several fire blazes in Aba in the last few weeks, indicating that there were things that were not being done right.

He commiserated with the owners of the affected businesses over their loss and pledged to support them overcome some of their losses.

Narrating their ordeal, the Manager of the Loading Bay, Mr. Ikechukwu Nwosu, said the fire started when they noticed a spark as they changed over to a generating set to pump water.

He said the level of damages could not be quantified and appealed to the government to come to their aid, describing the loss as monumental.
