The Archbishop of Owerri Ecclesiastical Province and President of Catholic Bishops Conference of Nigeria, the Most Reverened Lucious Ugorji, has appealed to Nigerians not to forget the fallen heroes.

Bishop Ugorji made the appeal at a special mass held to celebrate Armed Forces and Remembrance Day at Maria Assumpta Cathedral Owerri.

He said many soldiers did not die in the battle field but were wounded or disabled for life and Nigeria should not forget them.

Arch. Bishop Ugorji explained that celebration of Armed Forces and Remembrance Day should inspire citizens to rise to the obligation of being patriotic like fallen heroes and make sacrifices to the nation.

“The gallant veterans need not only our sympathy but above all our assistance as well. Let us therefore support courses aimed at rehabilitation by denoting generously to the Nigerian legion,” the Archbishop pleaded.

Imo State Governor, Chief Hope Uzodimma, who attended the mass, said the Armed Forces and Remembrance Day should remind everyone of supremacy of peace of the land.

Governor Uzodimma called on the leaders to show commitment for the fallen heroes and veterans.
