REPORTER: PEACE AGBO
Abia State Government says it is coming up with new Master plan to develop Aba into a mega City for the next 30 years.
Briefing journalists at the Government House Umuahia on the outcome of this week’s state Executive council meeting chaired Governor Alex Otti, the Commissioner for Information Prince Okey Kanu said the plan would transform Aba into a real business hub to maintain its pride of place in the country.
The Commissioner while emphasizing the importance of the plan towards the expansion project of Aba, said that details of the master plan, which is already in place, would soon be publicized.
He noted that a special committee to spare head the development of the megacity had been approved, stressing that the initiative was aimed at facilitating the establishment of new markets in Aba and rebuilding of the Ngwa road market.
The Commissioner further announced plans by the state government to rebuild the Enyimba International Stadium into a modern stadium.
While noting that the market around the Enyimba International Stadium constituted a great gridlock, Prince Kanu said the Special committee had been directed to decongest the Ngwa road market axis.
Responding to questions on polluted stream in Aro Ajatakiri Community in Ikwuano Local Government Area, the Commissioner for Environment, Mr. Philemon Ogbonna, said that investigations were ongoing to ascertain the source of the pollution.
He advised the people of the Community to stay clear from the River until investigations were concluded and pledged that response team would be deployed to the area.
