YULETIDE TRAFFIC: FRSC DEPLOYS 1000 PERSONNEL IN ANAMBRA, PRESENTS AWARD TO 3 RADIO NIG REPORTERS

The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) Anambra Sector Command, says it will deploy about 1000 Regular and Special Marshals across the state ahead of the Yuletide.
The Sector Commander, Mr. Adeoye Irelewuyi, announced this during the end of the year interaction with journalists in Awka, Anambra State.
The Sector Commander explained that the command was poised to commence the Operation Zero Tolerance to Road Traffic Crash (RTC), which would start nationwide on December 15, 2023 and would end by January 15, 2024.
Mr. Irelewuyi pointed out that strategies had been mapped out for the success of the exercise in the state.
According to the Sector Commander, special operations will include robust traffic management, enforcement of road safety regulations and traffic control as well as public enlightenment, all targeted at reducing RTCs.
The Sector Commander further explained that the Corps would synergize with sister security agencies, Federal Ministry of Works, the Anambra State Ministry of Transport, the Anambra State Road Traffic Management Agency, the media and other critical stakeholders to ensure a successful exercise.
He further explained that discussion was ongoing between the Sector Command, representatives of a telecommunication giant, the Federal Ministry of Works and Housing (FMWH) in Anambra State on the possibility of opening the Onitsha bound lane of the expressway to traffic as from December 15, 2023, to ease the pressure of traffic on the Amawbia flyover.
Mr. Irelewuyi said discussions were equally ongoing on the possibility of some emergency repairs on critical portions of the expressway at Onitsha, Owerri Road, Bridge head and other points to help in ensuring free traffic flow.
He announced that the Sector Command had also taken delivery of a brand new 70 ton Tow truck (Juggernaut) from its national Headquarters, which according to him would greatly assist in ensuring prompt removal of obstructions and reduction of gridlock.
Highlight of the event was the conferment of awards on selected journalists, including Kelvin Ekediegwu, Alfred Ajayi and Oby Arinze of Radio Nigeria in recognition of their selfless services in propagating road safety information in Anambra State.
