Road users have been advised to be safety conscious while plying the roads, especially this yuletide.

The Police commissioner in Imo State, Mr. Aboki Danjuma, gave the advise during a traffic control sensitisation of motorists to the need to obey traffic rules for avoidance of crashes before, during and after the Christmas and New Year celebrations.

“We want Christmas and new year celebrated accident free,” Mr. Danjuma stated.

The sector commander, Federal Road Safety
Corps, Imo State Sector Command, Mr. Evaristus Ebeniro, stated that the event was to sensitise commuters not to cause blockage at the major roads leading into the state to reduce traffic congestion.

“We are in this collaboration to ensure that commuters have the best of time entering into Imo State and also departing,” the FRSC boss said.

Mr. Ebeniro appealed to road users, especially at areas prone to traffic congestion in the state, to obey traffic rules and not use their vehicles to obstruct free flow of vehicular movement.

The Chairman National Union of Road Transport Workers, Imo State Chapter, Mr. Samuel Ude, thanked the state Governor, Chief Hope Uzodimma for the reconstruction of roads in the state.

He promised on behalf of the Union to ensure that all members on the wheel kept to the traffic rules.

The road sensitisation, organized by the Imo State Police Command, the Federal Road Safety Corps and the National Union of Road Traffic Workers, was held at major traffic points leading into the state from neighboring states.
