ABSUTH REGAINS FULL ACCREDITATION

The Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria (MDCN) has restored the accreditation of the Abia State University Teaching Hospital (ABSUTH) to graduate medical students.
This is heart warming news is coming close to three years after the accreditation was withdrawn.
The Council announced the restoration after it had inspected the condition of the hospital facilities and other prerequisites.
This is contained in a statement by the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Mr. Kazie Uko.
The statement noted that the Council further gave accreditation to graduate medical students for the next five years; increase admission quota from 120 to 150 per session; renewed accreditation to train 60 house officers per annum for the next four years.
According to the statement, the number can be increased if the institution employs more full time consultants in the department of pediatrics.
Earlier, Governor Alex Otti had received the Accreditation Team of the MDCN, who visited him at Nvosi, Isialangwa.
The Governor promised not allow the Teaching Hospital in the state to lose its accreditation by the regulatory authorities.
The Governor said he had dedicated 20% and 15% of the state’s 2024 annual budget to education and health respectively, which were highest in sectoral allocation.
