REPORTER: PEACE AGBO
Abia State Government is to enforce ban on street trading from 2024 to reduce the menace of the trend in major cities of the state.
The Commissioner for Information and Culture, Prince Okey Kanu, made this known while briefing journalists on the outcome of this week’s Executive Council meeting presided over by Governor Alex Otti.
Prince Kanu explained that the trend had become a source of worry to the state government and warned that the government would not fold its arms and watch the anomaly continue.
The Commissioner reassured the government’s determination to ensure that one carriage way of the Ossah-Okpara Square road and the Aba – Port-Harcourt Express Way would be completed this Yuletide.
On arrears owed to pensioners in the state by previous administration, the Commissioner reaffirmed the commitment of the state government towards defraying all arrears as earlier promised before the end of 2023.
Contributing the Commissioner for Power and Public Utilities, Mr. Ikechukwu Monday, said that the state government was collaborating with the Federal Ministry of Power to boost power supply in the State.
For his part, the Special Assistant to the Governor on Media and Publicity, Mr. Ferdinand Ekeoma, who expressed regret on the recent serial organized crime in the state, said government was intensifying awareness for the residents, especially parents to be more cautious and responsible for their subjects and children.
He said government is doing all it could to ensure that Abia State is safe before, during and after the festive periods.
