REPORTER: CHINAZO ILECHUKWU
The Commandant General of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Dr. Ahmed Audi, has cautioned his men providing security for Saturday November 11 governorship election in Imo State to maintain neutrality and exhibit a high sense of professionalism.
Dr. Audi gave the charge while addressing officers and men of the corps at the Command’s headquarters in Owerri the Imo State capital.
He noted that the corps was aware of likely infiltration of political thugs into the state due to the peculiar nature of the election but assured that the NSCDC had fortified the area with its personnel to ensure the smooth conduct of the poll.
Dr. Audi stated that about 4,500 personnel of the corps had been deployed to synergize with sister security agencies to protect lives and property of citizens during and after the election.
“We are very very much ready combatant ready to provide safety and security for this election, off-cycle elections are supposed to be seemingly very easy elections to be conducted but we have seen from research that there are over-concentration of thugs from feeder states when off-cycle elections are being organised,” he said.
Dr. Audi warned those who might want to disrupt the election to have a rethink as the Corps is ready to deal with anyone caught in the act.
