CALL OFF ON GOING STRIKE IN IMO — NNABUGWU BEGS LABOUR
REPORTER: CHINAZO ILECHUKWU
As residents of Imo State continue to experience black out and its effect on cost of goods and services, the Convener of Imo Christian Youth Peace Initiative, Mr. Oluchukwu Nnabugwu wants the organized labour to call off the industrial action in the state to reduce hardship experienced by citizens.
Mr. Nnabugwu, while speaking with journalists in Owerri, said time had come for the government and the aggrieved labour leaders to resolve their differences in the interest of the masses.
He empathised with the President of the Nigeria Labour Congress, Comrade Joe Ajaero, over the recent assault against him in Owerri but stated that other avenues would have been adopted by the unions to seek redress.
Mr. Nnabugwu noted the strike had negatively affected the workers whose interest were being protected.
He expressed concern that the strike might affect the smooth conduct of the governorship election this Saturday.
Mr. Nnabugwu appealed to the Christian Association of Nigeria, political associations and other well meaning bodies to prevail on the Nigeria Labour Congress and the Trade Union Congress to call off the strike.
He further called on eligible voters to come out enmasse on Saturday to elect the candidate of their choice.
