TEACHERS DAY: GOV UZODIMMA PLEDGES TO REVIEW TEACHERS PAY, RETIREMENT AGE

Imo State Governor, Chief Hope Uzodinma has promised to send the new teachers’ policy of retirement age of 65 years and 40 years in service to state House of Assembly for consideration.

Chief Uzodimma stated this on the occasion of the 2023 World Teacher’s Day at Rear Admiral Ndubuisi Kanu Square Owerri.

The Goveenor pledged to review teachers salary and wages to make it attractive.

The Governor said he would strengthen education in the state for sustainable growth by recruiting more teachers in the state.

Governor Uzodimma assured the teachers that he would bring back dignity associated with teaching profession by paying them properly.

In a remark the state commissioner for Education, Professor Johncliff Nwadike described teachers as care givers and mother of every profession as well as pride of the society.

Earlier in his welcome address, the Chairman Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT) Imo State Chapter, Dr. Philip Nwansi, called on the Governor to provide teachers with safety measures that would improve motivation and career opportunities.

In an interview, a principal, Mrs Augustine Celine, and an education secretary Mr. Kelechi Okonkwo expressed gratitude to the governor.

The highlights of the day were award presentation of Golden pen to Governor and match past by teachers.
