ANAMBRA STATE GOVT RESCHEDULES WORLD FOOD DAY CELEBRATION FOR NOV

The Anambra State Government says it is working to introduce a special Agro Intergrated Aqua Culture and Agro Production System for farmers.

The State Commissioner for Agriculture, Dr. Foster Ihejiofor, made this known while speaking with Radio Nigeria in Awka.

According to the Commissioner, the system will be underpinned by the current innovations and technology that will enable the farmers to upscale or downscale their production and meet the demands of the international market.

Dr. Ihejiofor noted that Anambra State government had concluded plans to celebrate the 2023 World food day by November when it would present a score card of the present administration in the Agriculture Sector.

According to the Commissioner, the day will also be used to explain further the production systems that are driven by some new innovative technologies which afford farmers the opportunity to do multi layer cropping in a small space.

Speaking on the World Food Day, which was celebrated globally on October 16, Dr. Ihejiofor said the theme “Water is Life, Water is Food, Leave No One Behind,” was very apt as Water makes up about 50% of human body, including blood which is made up of more than 70% of water.

The Commissioner for Agriculture, while noting that water is the primary source for production, processing and digestion of food, cautioned people against contaminating the watersheds.

Dr. Ihejiofor explained that when people use toxic agro chemicals, pesticides and insecticides as well as inorganic fertilizer to farm, it would end up contaminating the water used for human activities.

He said it was in a bid to discourage such development that the Governor Soludo led government, upon inception, adopted regenerative agricultural policy, tailored around the natural process of food production that recycles nutrient.
