ANAMBRA STATE GOVT WARNS AGAINST INDISCRIMINATE PLASTIC WASTE DISPOSAL

The Anambra State Ministry of Environment has called on residents of the state to stop indiscriminate disposal of plastic waste materials in the area.
The State Commissioner for Environment, Mr. Felix Odumegwu, made the call during the Anambra State Plastic Waste Sustainability Summit held in Awka the Anambra State Capital.
The Anambra State Plastic Waste Sustainability Summit was organized in conjunction with Anambra State Waste Recyclers Association.
According to the Commissioner, it takes over 400 years for plastic waste to decompose, hence causing so much environmental hazard to the human environment.
The Commissioner declared that the best and easier way to beat plastic pollution is to reduce plastic use from the source.
Mr. Odumegwu further noted that the plastic waste summit was in furtherance of the clean, green and sustainable environmental vision of Governor Chukwuma Soludo’s administration.
For his part, the Convener of Anambra State Waste Recyclers, Mr. Philip Obuesi explained that plastic waste materials, when properly recycled, would help to reduce the volume of waste to be managed and evacuated by the Anambra State Waste Management Agency, (ASWAMA).
He also added that plastic waste when recycled serves as resource materials for many other end-products.
In an address, the Chief of Staff to the Governor of Anambra State, Mr. Ernest Ezeajughi, appealed to people of Anambra State to support Governor Soludo-led government in waste management and recycling.
Governor Chukwuma Soludo has always insisted on ensuring zero tolerance for waste in the state, conversion of waste to wealth through strategic partnership and advanced upgrade both in the state-owned and individual recycling hubs, provision of clean, green, planned and sustainable Anambra.
The event attracted many major players in plastic waste recycling sector in and outside Anambra State.
