REPORTER: JOHN MADUAGWU

The number of petitions now before the Election Petitions Tribunals sitting in Abia State has risen to fifty-nine.

A breakdown of the petitions shows that there are two Governorship election petitions, eight are on the senatorial elections while 26 petitions are concerned with the House of Representatives.

In an interview with Radio Nigeria, the Secretary of the tribunal, Mr. Bello Hassan, said 23 other petitions were filed by petitioners challenging the outcome of the State House of Assembly elections.

Mr. Hassan noted that the President of the Court of Appeal had already constituted panels that would handle all the petitions.

Radio Nigeria gathered that so far, only one petitioner, Mr. John Azubuike of the Action Alliance, has withdrawn the petition he filed against the winner of the Abia North Senatorial election, Senator Orji Uzor Kalu.
