UMAHI TO SECURITY AGENCIES: DEMOBILIZE ANY BANDIT DISTEBILIZING ELECTION CONDUCT IN EBONYI
REPORTER: AMECHI ODO
Ebonyi State Government has ordered security agents to demobilize any suspected bandits that attempt to disrupt the smooth conduct of this weekend’s general election in the state in any guise.
Governor David Umahi gave the order in a broadcast that held at Government House Abakaliki.
He emphasised that he had mobilized security agencies to deploy their operatives to all the nooks and crannies of the state, urging them to treat ballot box snatchers as criminals, irrespective of party affiliation.
Governor Umahi called on the people of the state to respect the zoning principle that had encouraged political inclusiveness in the area, warning that it would be dangerous to alter the arrangement, which had produced political leaders from different zones since the inception of the state.
Chief Umahi assured the people that neither the disbanded Ebubeagu nor vigilante Corps, which became operational recently, would be allowed to operate on election day but would go after bandits threatening the peace of the state after the ection.
He noted that the state government had appealed the judgment of the Federal High Court that disbanded Ebubeagu but that would not restore its operations for now as they were being performed by the vigilante Corps.
