NPC TRAINS JOURNALISTS IN EBONYI AHEAD OF 2023 POPULATION & HOUSING CENSUS

The National Population Commission (NPC) says it is on course in its mission to deliver an accurate census that will generate data for national planning within the context of the nation’s present realities.
The Federal Commissioner in charge of Ebonyi State in the Commission, Chief Darlington Okereke, stated this at a one day state level capacity building workshop for journalists on effective reporting of 2023 Census.
Chief Okereke explained that deepening the understanding of journalists in census process would no doubt enhance the productivity of individual correspondent in the reporting the outcome during and after the exercise.
He noted that the over-reaching goal was to expose journalists to the scientific processes and methodologies which the Commission had introduced to conduct the National Population and Housing census in line with international standard.
The State Director, National Population Commission, Mrs. Julia Manyike noted that the Commission expected journalists in the state to be conversant with basic concepts in census taking, neutralize negative prejudices and misrepresentation in order to deliver census outcomes that would be acceptable to all Nigerians.
The Chairman Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) in the State, Comrade Tony Nwizi, in a good will message, assured the Commission that Journalists in the state were ready to ensure effective reportage of all the census activities when they commence next month.
One of the participants, who is also the General Manager Unity Fm Abakaliki, Dr. McSylvester Ndolo, described the training as apt considering the scientific innovations that would be brought to bear during the exercise.
