Governor Chukwuma Soludo has been called upon to, as a matter of urgency, come to the rescue of the Anambra State International Cargo and Passenger Airport, Umueri.

The Chairman House of Assembly Committee on Works, Dr. Timothy Ifedioramma, made the call when he led other members to a fact finding mission to the Airport.

There have been various unconfirmed reports in the social media claiming that the Anambra Cargo and Passenger International Airport, Umueri had been in poor condition.

This includes leaking roof of building housing security and vanderlism of underground cables.

Dr. Ifedioramma, said the media report prompted the House Committee on Works to embark on the fact finding visit to ascertain the true situation and condition of the facility.

Dr. Ifedioramma noted that there were elements of substantial truth in the reports being speculated but said that they got a better perspective having listened to the management of the airport.

He noted that having gone round, that all hope was not lost, but that there was the urgent need for the Governor to inject fund to enable the airport function optimally.

Two members of the Committee, Mr. Onyebuchi Offor and Dr. Carter Ume, harped on the need for the government to maintain and standardize operations of the airport as there were capable hands on ground to operate the place.

The Managing Director of the Airport, Mr. Emeka Nwafor, said it was important to urgently address the erosion menace, which is already threatening the airport Runway.

Mr. Nwafor, while commending the law makers for showing concern over the issues and challenges confronting the facility, noted that the management was doing its best to ensure adequate security within the area.
