The Federal Government says it is presently intervening in thirty eight internal road projects at various federal tertiary institutions across the country.
The Minister of Works and Housing, Mr. Babatunde Fashola, stated this in a message to the inauguration of a two kilometre road rehabilitated by his Ministry at Akanu Ibiam Federal Polytechnic Unwana in Ebonyi State.
Represented by the Controller of Works in Ebonyi State, Mr. Steve Oluwadun, the Minister explained that the project was part of efforts by President Muhammadu Buhari’s administration to bridge the gap in road infrastructure in the country.
He noted that the Federal government had successfully intervened in 64 internal road projects in various federal tertiary institutions in the country while others were ongoing.
Mr. Fashola said the road projects in schools would impact positively in higher education and rekindle the spirit of learning in the students of the institution.
The Rector, Akuanu Ibiam Federal Polytechnic Unwana, Dr. Felix Atta, represented by the Deputy Rector incharge of Academics, Dr. Ezichi Kalu, noted that the project would enhance the movement of students and staff as well as reduce the rate of road mishaps in the school.
Some students and members of staff of the polytechnic commended the Federal Government for the project, noting that it had given the school a facelift.
The inauguration come barely two months after a similar project was completed at Alex Ekwueme Federal University Ndufu Alike, Ikwo.
