IGP READS RIOT ACT TO CRIMINALS AS HE INAUGURATES POLICE FACILITIES IN ANAMBRA

The Inspector General of Police (IGP), Usman Alkali-Baba, says the police force will not spare criminals hiding under the guise of agitation to attack citizens in the South East region.
The IGP stated this in Amawbia, Awka South Local Government Area of Anambra State when he inaugurated an ultra-modern Divisional Police Station, and a residential quarters for officers and men of the command in the state.
Mr. Alkali-Baba condemned, in strong terms, the situation where hoodlums would hide in disguise of separatist agitation, to be perpetrating criminal activities in Anambra State and the entire South-East, especially attacking police officers and other public facilities.
The projects inaugurated by the Inspector General of Police include structures put in place to encourage and motivate officers of the force to put in their best while working in a conducive environment and a decent accommodation.
The IGP said he was determined to erect more of such structures across the country as the existing ones would never be enough for the personnel.
While commending the people of the state for their resolve to live in peace and as one entity, Mr. Alkali-Baba warned that the police would no longer allow criminals to keep operating in any state in the South-East, as there were better ways to agitate than getting involved in criminality.
The police Inspector General emphasised that no group would be allowed to hide under the guise of self actualization to intimidate the government and its people in any part of the country.
The Commissioner of Police in Anambra State, Mr. Echeng Echeng, in his remarks, described the new structure as a milestone in the repositioning of police force for better delivery and appealed for more Armoured Personnel Carriers and utility vehicles to enable the command stabilize in its effort to nip crime in the bud.
Mr. Echeng also appreciated the support of the Anambra State Government to security agencies in the state, and assured the residents that the police were poised to provide secure environment for peaceful Yuletide and a New Year celebration.
Governor Chukwuma Soludu, who was represented on the occasion by his Special Adviser on Security Matters, Retired Air Vice Marshal, Ben Chiobi, noted that the state government would not relent in assisting security operatives in battling insecurity in the area.
He expressed happiness that Anambra State was one of the states that benefited from the 120 newly constructed Police Stations in the country.
The Assistant Inspector General of Police, in charge of Zone 13 Ukpo, Mr. Abutu Yaro, the traditional Ruler of Nise Community, Igwe Romanus Iloh, law makers and other stakeholders witnessed the ceremony.
