DON’T ALLOW YOUR CHILDREN TO BE TRAFFICKED— NAPTIP CAUTIONS PARENTS IN ABIA
REPORTER: JOHN MADUAGWU
Parents, guardians and young people in Abia State have been urged to guard against being deceived by human traffickers this festive season.
The Head, National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTI), in Abia State, Mrs. Nkemdilim Okafor, gave the advice while speaking with Radio Nigeria on how careful people should be during and after the yuletide.
Mrs. Okafor while describing human trafficking as a form of modern day slavery, which had eaten deep into the society, lamented that the menace had become endemic in Abia State.
She said due to the activities of a lot of traffickers in the area, many victims had been trafficked into sexual exploitation, child abuse, organ harvesting, orphanage trafficking and baby sales.
Mrs. Okafor explained that as people were getting ready to travel to their villages, traffickers were also doing so with the intention of luring more unsuspecting victims, and advised parents and guardians to take the protection of their children seriously.
She urged them to monitor who their young ones would be interacting with either in-person or on social media as well as their movement so as to prevent them from falling into the hands of traffickers who would be lurking around seeking for prey.
