FRSC TO IMPLEMENT ONE MONTH OPENING OF 2ND NIGER BRIDGE

REPORTER: OBY ARINZE

The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) says it will ensure that heavy duty trucks and trailers will not ply the Second Niger Bridge within the one month period it will be opened to traffic.

FRSC Sector Commander in Anambra State, Mr. Adeoye Irelewuyi, stated this following the announcement of a temporal opening of the Bridge to motorists by the Minister of Works and Housing, Mr. Babatunde Fashola.

The FRSC Sector Commander echoed that the Second Niger Bridge would open temporally for motorists from December 15, 2022 to January 15, 2023.

According to Mr Irelewuyi, motorists and other road users coming from the Western part of the country to the East through Asaba can start plying the new bridge from December 15th 2022 to January 1, 2023, while only vehicles coming from the East to the West would be allowed to ply the bridge from 2nd to 15th. January, 2023.

He assured road users that Anambra State Sector Command would be collaborating with relevant agencies to ensure that the gridlock usually experienced at the bridgehead in Onitsha during Christmas was completely eliminated.

Mr. Irelewuyi, however, appealed to road users to avoid over-speeding and driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs but to cooperate with traffic agents to ensure free flow of traffic during the Yuletide.
