BREAKING: COURT SACKS ODII, ORDERS FRESH PDP GUBER PRIMARIES IN EBONYI
REPORTER: AMECHI ODO
A Federal High Court sitting in Abuja has nullified the primary election that produced Dr. Ifeanyichukwuma Odii as the Governorship Candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Ebonyi State.
The judgment, which was delivered by Justice Binta Nyako, was in pursuance to a stay of execution order granted by an Appeal Court against the removal of Mr. Tochukwu Okorie as the authentic state Chairman of the Party in April this year by a Federal High Court sitting in Abuja, which was disregarded.
The Court held that the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) utterly disregarded the order of the Appeal Court by recognizing Mr. Silas Onu as the Acting Chairman of the Party during which he conducted the primaries that produced the candidates in the state.
It noted that the actions of PDP and INEC were in contravention of section 287 sub 2 of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria as amended, which rendered all the actions taken by Mr. Onu in his capacity as null and void.
It therefore directed the PDP to conduct a fresh primary election for its aspirants within 14 days while INEC should monitor same.
