TRAGEDY IN AWKA AS NEPHEW MURDERS AUNT

A woman in her late 50s has been killed by her nephew in Umuokpu-Village, Awka in Awka South Local Government Council of Anambra State.
The woman, identified as Miss Abumchukwu Nwaofor, was said to been killed in the evening hours of Monday, 7th November, 2022.
An eyewitness, who pleaded anonymity, alleged that the woman was killed by her brother’s son over family crisis.
He explained that the youth of the village were notified of the incident through the outcry of the sister of the deaseaed.
The eyewitness futher stated that villagers, through the help of the President General, reported the sad incident to the Central Police Station Awka and later took the body of the deaseaed to the mortuary.
In an interview, the elder brother of the deaseaed, Mr. Ndubueze Nwaofor, who couldn’t hold his tears, expressed shock at the ugly incident.
Mr. Nwaofor said that he and his late sister had been in the court with his younger brother over family crisis.
He alleged that his late sister told him that the younger brother and his wife had earlier threatened to kill her.
Mr. Nwaofor, who said that he believed in the integrity of the security agency, urged them (police) to carry out their investigation with utmost sincerity.
The alleged killer of Miss Abumchukwu Nwaofor, Master Uchechukwu Nwaofor, who was caught at about 2am at a club house in Amawbia by youths of the village, confessed to have killed his aunt with the directive of his father.
In an interview, the Police Public Relations Officer in Anambra State, Mr. Tochukwu Ikenga, confirmed the incident.
He said investigation had commenced and suspect arrested.
The police spokesman added that further details would be communicated to journalists on the issue.
The deceased, who was brutally cut with a machete, was said to be a level 16 officer working with the NIPOST.
