FOCUS ON SKILLS ACQUISITION, AVOID SOCIAL VICES—NYSC BOSS ADMONISHES CORPS MEMBERS IN EBONYI
REPORTER: AMECHI ODO
About 1,012 (one thousand and twelve) 2022 Batch C National Youth Service Corps members have been sworn in for their mandatory service year in Ebonyi State.
Performing the function at NYSC Permanent Orientation Camp Old Macgregor College Afikpo, the State Coordinator of the Corps, Mrs. Bamai Mercy, told the corps members that their posting to Ebonyi State was aimed at broadening their understanding of the country.
She urged them to take the orientation course seriously as the knowledge and experience garnered would help them to contribute meaningfully to national unity and integration.
“I therefore encourage you to ensure healthy interactions, exchange ideas and build lasting friendship with a view to advancing the progresses of a united Nigeria.
“My dear compatriots, today you have taken the solemn oath to dedicate yourselves to the service of the fatherland, I enjoin you to always ponder on the significance of the oath and be guided by the spirit and letters,” she admonished.
Mrs. Mercy warned the corps members against indulging in cultism, drug abuse and other social vices, noting that they would be exposed to SAED programme to enable them to acquire skills as alternative source of income rather than waiting for white collar jobs.
In an interview, one of the corp members, Mr. Benjamin Adepoju, described NYSC scheme as a unifier, noting that he was happy to be enlisted to serve his father land.
“One of the aims of NYSC is unity, once we see ourselves as one, the feeling of disunity and separation will be gradually mitigated, so unity is the key,” he said.
Justice Vincent Nwachor of the State High Court Abakaliki, who represented the Chief Judge of the State, Justice Elvis Ngene, administered oath of allegiance to the corp members.
