GOV UZODIMMA LAUNCHES GREEN REVOLUTION IN IMO

Imo State Government says it is taking measures to reduce green house emission ocassioned by indiscriminate activities of man and illegal operation of ecosystem in the state.
The State Governor Senator Hope Uzodimma made this known at the launch of Imo State Hope Green Revolution at the Government House, Owerri.
Goveror Uzodimma noted that in order to mitigate the damages done to the environment, the state would embark on green house initiatives, the use of clean cook stoves and other energy saving programmes as well as planting and nurturing of trees in the state.
He said the government would enforce the planting of trees and come up with legal action for those cutting down the trees illegally.
The State Commissioner for Environment, Chief Emmanuel Duru explained that the programme would put Imo State beyond its proper place globally, which would enable the state get the needed credit and finances.
The programme had in attendance the various representatives from the Federal Ministry of Trade and Investment, the Federal Ministry of Environment, the United States Ambassador to Nigeria and many others.
The highlights of the event were presentation of Clean Cook Stoves, planting of trees by Governor Uzodinma and presentation of various species of trees to the participants.
