POLICE GUN DOWN SUSPECTED IPOB MEMBER IN IMO

A young man suspected to be a member of the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) have been shot dead by the police in Imo State.

In a statement by the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) in the area, Mr. Micheal Abattam, the deceased, operating in company of five others attacked police personnel who were at a checkpoint near UBA roundabout Orlu in Orlu Local Government Area of the state.

According to the statement, the suspects on approaching the checkpoint around 9am on Thursday, opened fire on the security operatives but were resisted by the superior firepower of the police.

The statement explained that one person was neutralized during the shooting while five others abandoned their vehicle with arms in it and fled into the nearby bush after sustaining severe injuries.

The statement appealed to the public to report anybody seen with bullet wound to the security agents.

It assured residents of the state of the preparedness of the command to ensure peaceful yuletid, noting that adequate measures had been taken to check criminal activities in the state.
