SECOND NIGER BRIDGE WILL BE READY BY DECEMBER —CONTRACTOR

REPORTER: OBY ARINZE

The much awaited second Niger Bridge will be ready for use by December this year (2022) as the project is said to be about 95% completed.

The representative of engineering firm handling the job, Mr. Martins Oluwaseyi, made this known in an interview with Radio Nigeria in Onitsha, Anambra State.

According to the engineer, the second River Niger crossing has been completed, “meaning that one can drive from Asaba end of the bridge to the Onitsha end, as the Anambra section is now at advanced stage of completion.”

Mr. Oluwaseyi explained that the interchange at Obosi has four quadrants, two of which had been completed.

He further clarified that the end of the project had been linked to the Obosi bypass and the road opened to traffic, “which is part of measures to divert traffic for the completion of quadrant two of the interchange.”

Mr. Oluwaseyi noted that they were constructing a link road from the Onitsha-Asaba- Benin expressway to the second Niger Bridge project currently, as an interim measure.

He expressed their inability to beat the initial October 2022 deadline for completion of the project, which he blamed on the COVID-19 pandemic, EndSARS protest among others setbacks.
