EBONYI STATE GOVT TO SWEAR IN LG CHAIRMEN AGAINST COURT JUDGMENT
REPORTER: AMECHI ODO
Ebonyi State Government says it will go ahead with the swearing in of the newly elected Local government Chairmen despite Federal High Court’s judgment, which nullified the process few days ago.
A statement by the State Commissioner for Information and Orientation, Mr. Uchenna Orji, described the judgment as dead on arrival considering that the case was filed when the Federal High Court was on vacation.
He further contended that Justice Fatun Rilman was aware that he was not a vacation judge yet he gave judgment on the matter even when it was not extremely urgent.
He noted that the state government viewed the judgment as strange as the grouse of the litigants, which was that the State Electoral Law was not made public as well as the two year tenure of the Chairmen, were all gazetted.
According to the statement, the state government is protected by the decision of the Supreme Court of Nigeria in similar cases and other legal steps to insist that the swearing in ceremony scheduled for 1st September, 2022 must be held.
