As global community celebrates World Youth Skills Day, government at all levels in the country are encouraged to evolve new school curriculum for primary and secondary schools that will embrace skill acquisition and discover talents of students and pupils.
A former Commissioner for Transport, Enugu State, Pastor Beloved-Dan Anike, gave the advice in Enugu, while speaking on the 2022 World Youth Skills Day.
Pastor Anike, who is also the Founder of a Youth Foundation, “Ositadimma Youth Foundation,” noted that paper qualification was not enough to drive the economy and reduce the high unemployment rate in the country.
Pastor Anike, who urged the country to emulate Asian countries like China, South Korea, India and Malaysia, that lay emphasis on skills and technology driven economy, advised youths to shun idleness and crime.
The United Nations General Assembly had in December 2014 adopted a resolution that declared July 15 every year as World Youth Skills Day with the aim of achieving better Socio-economic condition for today’s youth as a means of addressing the challenges of underemployment and unemployment.
The theme of this year’s celebration is: “Transforming Youth Skills For The Future.”
