EBONYI STATE GOVT PLANS CAMPAIGN AGAINST RAPE & ILLICT DRUG

REPORTER: AMECHI ODO

Ebonyi State Government is to embark on massive campaign against rape and consumption of hard drugs across the state.

Briefing journalists at the end of this week’s State Executive Council meeting at Government House Abakaliki, the Commissioner for Information, Mr. Uchenna Orji, explained that the decision followed the review of a report on increasing cases of rape in the state.

Mr. Orji noted that the Council had directed relevant agencies to ensure that there was no sacred cow in the enforcement of the Laws on rape, emphasising that the campaign would be taken to schools, churches and other public places.

The Commissioner said the Council also noted the submission on increased use of hard drugs in the state and had designated Mr. Mark Onu to head the fight against the abuse of drugs.

He pointed out that the state government would collaborate with relevant security agencies to raid joints and arrest drug users for prosecution.
