OUTCOME OF OSUN GUBER POLL SHOWS THE BEAUTY OF NEW ELECTORAL ACT — POLITICAL ANALYSTS
REPORTER: ALFRED AJAYI
Two political affairs commentators have commended President Muhammadu Buhari, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and other stakeholders for the successful conduct of last saturday’s governorship election in Osun State.
They described the outcome of the poll as the benefit of the 2022 electoral act and a good omen for the 2023 general election.
One of them, Chief Chidozie Ezeugwa, attributed the success of the election to the new Electoral Act, which allowed for electronic transfer of results from the polling units to the INEC portal.
He commended all stakeholders, who worked together to ensure that the law was enacted, to take care of manipulations during elections.
“I must commend all the civil society organizations that mounted pressure on the president to sign that bill into law. It is a source of hope for our democracy.
“The people of Osun State must also be commended for their resilience against all the shenanigans of the politicians,” he said.
Commenting on the outcome of the election, Comrade Obi Ochije maintained that it was a true reflection of the will of the voters, an indication that democracy was fast deepening in the country.
“Remember that the winner, Senator Adeleke, was believed to have won the election four years ago. But somehow, he was outsmarted.
“His victory last Saturday shows that he is the choice of the people. Politicians must work to earn people’s votes during elections,” comrade Ochije remarked.
According to Comrade Ochije, it is equally a firm promise that voters turn out during next year’s general election will be unprecedentedly massive.
“Nigeria is beginning to get it right and as a result, you will see massive turn out of voters for the 2023 elections,” he said.
The political analysts appealed to eligible Nigerians, who were yet to register for their Permanent Voter’s Cards, to do so before the July 31st deadline set by the umpire.
