ANAMBRA INFORMATION COMMISSIONER PROMISES STRATEGIC PARTNERSHIP WITH NUJ

REPORTER: BEN ILECHUKWU

The Anambra State Government has reassured journalists in the state of its determination and commitment to guarantee their welfare.

The Commissioner for Information, Mr. Paul Nwosu, who made this known, when the executive of Nigeria Union of Journalists, Anambra State Council paid him a visit in Awka, said the Soludo led administration was a media friendly government.

Mr. Nwosu complained that there had been zero remittances to the Federation Account from the NNPC, noting that the government was working aggressively to generate money from internal sources through the digitized system of taxation.

The Commissioner also acknowledged that the state government understood the role of media as key in the affairs of the government, even as he enjoined journalists to carryout their jobs with diligence.

He said that the Anambra State Government had plans to reposition its own print medium, the National Light Newspaper, to an enviable height.

The information Commissioner, while accepting to be guest of
the forthcoming NUJ Health Week, described it as apt and promised his Ministry’s support to the programme.

The Commissioner emphasized the need for journalists to be mentally and physically fit in order to avail themselves of the opportunities in their profession and in carrying out their duties.

Earlier, the Chairman, Nigeria Union of Journalists, Anambra State Council,
Dr. Emeka Odogwu, had congratulated Mr. Nwosu on his emergence as the Commissioner for Information in the state, expressing the hope that their challenges would be tackled based on his antecedents as a veteran print media journalist.

Dr. Odogwu, however, solicited a strategic partnership with the Ministry of Information to ensure the progress of the union’s activities.

In a remark, an executive member of the NUJ, Mr. John Ndu, while lauding the Commissioner on the achievements recorded by the Ministry, expressed optimism that a synergy between his office and the union would promote development.

The Vice Chairman, Mrs. Ngozi Obileri; Treasurer, Mr. Ogemdi Ozoemena; and the Health Week Committee Chairman, Mrs. Chinyere- Fessy Okoye were among those present during the visit.
