REPORTER: UCHE NDEKE

The Anambra State Government says it is aware of the deplorable condition of roads in Awka and other parts of the state.

To this end, it has engaged the services of consultants with a view to redesigning most of the road infrastructure in the area.

The Commissioner for Works, Mr. Ifeanyi Okoma, made this known while speaking with Radio Nigeria in Awka, the state capital.

According to the Works Commissioner, most of the roads, which were constructed by previous administrations had failed within a short period hence the resolve of the Governor Chukwuma Soludo led administration to redesign the roads before embarking on major work on most of them.

Mr. Okoma said that the present government had engaged contractors and consultants in a meeting where they were intimated of the policy of the new administration to do projects that would stand the test of time and give the people value for their taxes and levies.

He hinted that in the next few weeks the Governor would embark on road construction in Okpoko area and appealed to residents and road users as well as motorists to be patient as efforts were on to build a smart and liveable city that would measure with any part of the globe.

Some residents of Awka and environs had been complaining about the deplorable condition of roads within the state capital and appealed for urgent attention to save lives and property.
