TEACHERS’ RECRUITMENT CRISIS: ANAMBRA ASSEMBLY SUMMONS COMMISSIONER
REPORTER: UCHE NDEKE
The Anambra State House of Assembly has directed the Commissioner for Education, Professor Ngozi Chuma-Udeh to appear before it to explain the process and modalities being used for the on-going teachers recruitment.
In a matter of urgent public importance moved by the member representing Anaocha Constituency Two, Mr. Ejike Okechukwu, the lawmakers resolved that the Commissioner be made to appear to also give details about the sack of about one thousand, two hundred teachers that were earlier recruited under Parents Teachers Upgrade arrangement.
Mr. Okoye noted that there had been too many reactions and comments surrounding the recruitment process, including a protest by the disengaged teachers, hence the need for the Commissioner to clear the air on burning issues.
The Commissioner is expected to appear before the House on its next adjourned date.
Meanwhile, the Revised 2022 Draft Budget Estimate of the state passed through second reading and was subsequently referred to the Committee on Finance and Appropriation for further deliberations and defence by Ministries, Departments and Agencies.
