FIRE FIGHTERS DAY: ENUGU STATE CHIEF FIRE OFFICER CALLS FOR MORE SAFETY CONSCIOUSNESS

As Nigeria joins the global community to commemorate Internatonal Fire Fighters Day, citizens are encouraged to own fire extinguishers and be careful in handling household and office electrical appliances to prevent incidences of fire outbreak.

This is also to reduce greenhouse emissions that trigger global warming.

The Chief Fire Officer, Enugu State Fire Service, Mr. Okwudiri Ohaa gave the advice in Enugu, while speaking on the 2023 International Fire Fighters Day.

Mr. Ohaa, who lamented the incidences of fire disasters in the country, urged the people to be always fire safety conscious in their daily activities.

He commended the Enugu State Government for providing vital and modern fire fighting equipment for the Fire Service, which included fire fighting trucks, logistic vans, fire extinguishers and personnal protective wears as well as better condition of service for these emergency workers, who risk their lives for the safety of others.

Still speaking on the Day, a climate activist, Dr. Amauche Nnabueze, notes that another fire disaster that affects people with bigger destruction is wildfires trigered by global warming.

Dr. Nnabueze while appreciating the firefighters for their sacrifices, including the loss of some of their their members battling these wildfires, urged multinational and mega companies to embrace renewable energy to reduce greenhouse emissions to the atmosphere, which cause global warming with the attendant wildfires.
