FG TAKES OVER KING DAVID UNIVERSITY, UBURU AS PRESIDENT BUHARI EXTOLS DEVELOPMENT STRIDES IN EBONYI

The Federal Government has taken over King David University of Medical Sciences Uburu in Ohaozara Local Government Area recently constructed by Ebonyi State Government to curb medical tourism.

President Muhammadu Buhari made the pronouncement at a dinner organised in his honour as part of a two day working visit to the state.

President Muhammadu Buhari had on arrival in the state inaugurated some projects, including Margret Umahi International Market, Abakaliki Shopping Mall, Road Infrastructure and Kind David University of Medical Sciences located in the hometown of the state Governor in Uburu.

He explained that he had observed the progress in the economic performance index of Ebonyi State based on budget office rating and SIFTAS commendable records about the state government’s budgeting principles.

President Buhari commended the state for emerging second overall best in fiscal performance in Nigeria and for scoring high on accountability in the use of public resources, noting that it showed zero tolerance for corruption and waste of public fund.

The President noted that as a result of impressive performance of Ebonyi State Government, he had accepted its offer to take over King David University of Medical Sciences Uburu and also to name Ebonyi International Airport after him.

Governor David Umahi said the people of the state were pleased to be hosting the President for the second time since 2015 and appreciated him for supporting the development of the state’s critical infrastructure, aimed at improving its economic fortunes.

He appealed to President Buhari to approve ten billion Naira financial assistance for the procurement of some equipment to be deployed to Ebonyi International Airport when completed.

Governor of Cross River State, Professor Ben Ayade; the Minister of State for Mines and Steel, Dr. Uche Ogar; and the Deputy Governor of the State, Dr. Kelechi Igwe were among important personalities who attended the event.
