UNKNOWN ARSONISTS SET POLICE STATION, PG OHANEZE’S RESIDENCE ABLAZE IN IMO

A Police Division in Umuguma, Owerri West Local Government Area of Imo State has been set ablaze by gunmen at the early hours of Saturday.

Sources say the gunmen, who invaded the station, attacked security personnel, who were on duty, before throwing petrol bomb at the building.

Two police constables were said to have lost their lives while trying to escape from the scene.

The Public Relations Officer Imo State Police Command, Mr. Mike Abattam, confirmed the incident but however denied any loss of life in the attack.

Similarly, the country residence of the President General of Ohaneze Ndigbo, Professor George Obiozor in Awo Omamma, Oru East Local Government Area of the state has been razed by arsonists at the wee hours of Saturday.

Spokesperson for the Imo State Police Command, Mr. Mike Abattam, told journalists that hoodlums invaded the residence of Professor Obiozor with vehicles and threw petrol bomb at the building thereby destroying property in the house.

He noted that there was nobody in the building during the attack.

The Police Public Relations officer said that the command had activated its tactical team to apprehend those responsible for the attacks.
